“Psychopathy is a complex personality disorder that includes interpersonal and affective traits such as glibness, lack of empathy, guilt or remorse, shallow affect, and irresponsibility, and behavioral characteristics such as impulsivity, poor behavioral control, and promiscuity.”  Here a paper of interest by Kent A. Kiehl, A cognitive neuroscience perspective on psychopath: Evidence for paralimbic system dysfunction Here

If you have been targeted/victimized by a psychopath there is one thing you should remember and that is, it is not your fault.  In other words, do not blame yourself regardless of what happened. These individuals leave a trail of destruction behind themselves wherever they show up and you are most likely not the only one who have been targeted.   In order to heal and protect yourself, mentally and physically, learn as much as you can about these disordered individuals.

Tim Field, who unfortunately left us at a very early age, was himself targeted but left behind a tremendous wealth of information on his site which I highly recommend to anyone who for.ex., is/have been abused at work, have a child who is bullied, is/have been abused in a relationship. On his site you will get answers to questions like, What is bullying? Why me? As well as information about the Serial Bully.  More Here

“Bullies” are individuals with some type of personality disorder most have no conscience and can feel no empathy which is why they are extremely mean spirited.  A psychopath will do just about anything to “break” the person they target, they will stalk, get others involved in stalking and harassing the “victim”, spread rumors (they can be very convincing as they believe their own lies), they will try to kill you or have someone else do the “dirty work”, nothing is “off limit” and anything goes when it comes to a “serial bully”. Here

Once you understand you will also see a pattern appear and it is very much the same in every “bully”.  The “smearcampain” is of course used to isolate the “target”, to make him/her feel alone thus making him/her more vulnerable.  This is the phase when the “victim” feels totally helpless and bewildered which makes him/her fall into a state of despair (depression) where thoughts of suicide are not uncommon.  Sadly some follow through as they see no other way out of their personal hell. (See PTSD) Here Please, if you have been targeted do not act on such thoughts, there is “a light at the end of the tunnel” and your life will become normal again, educating yorself about these individuals is a step in the right direction.

Having been through it myself, I know bullying can be prevented. However, the fact that “bullies” always try to “bully” their way to the top results in having “bullies” in upper management and sitting as CEO’s and other positions of power.  Having individuals with no conscience and no empathy and who do enjoy seeing others suffer is at the root of this “problem” which is why it still persists in schools, the workplace and elsewhere.

The sooner you learn how these individuals “operate” the better you can protect yourself, mentally as well as physically. My own contact with Tim Field came about when I was to translate his book into Swedish; unfortunately, it never happened as no publishers were willing to take on the project. Some probably due to the fact that they were afraid of being targeted themselves.  This in turn led me to set up my own site in Swedish to help those targeted to understand and thus be able to heal from the trauma.  For more information on books, research, PTSD and more you Click Here  (Most of the links in English are found at the bottom of just about every “page”.)

Due to my site I do get targeted every so often, the latest “scam” does apparently involve impersonating me in hope of isolating me. (Same old story)  Psychopaths do not like to be “discovered”, that makes the psychopath mad, very mad.  You can think of the psychopath as being a mean spirited kid in an adult body, they are emotionally stunted and thus throw temper tantrums, plot evil little deeds of revenge and other things a child would do whose mommy and daddy says “no” to whatever it is that the child desires.

In order to “isolate” the “victim” the psychopath projects his/her own “faults”/perverse activities, the most common projections seem to involve calling someone a pedophile, an alcoholic, gay/lesbian, someone who enjoys hard core porno or some other deviant activity.  Be very wary of an individual who insinuate and/or spread mean spirited rumors about others and/or will proclaim to be on a “morally higher ground”, you are most likely dealing with a psychopath.   The psychopath project his/her own “faults”/perverse activities onto others so not to be “discovered”, he/she always play the “blame game”, it wasn’t me.  More on projection,  Here

“If you know the person he is telling you something strange about, compare the accusation with your own observations. A narcissist will have ignored that person’s real faults and smeared one of his or her virtues as a vice! And, if you know the narcissist, you’ll find the narcissist himself is guilty of the very thing he’s accusing this other person of.”

I think Tim Field said it best when he said, “The main lesson I have learnt is that when dealing with a sociopath, the normal rules of etiquette do not apply. You are dealing with someone who has no empathy, no conscience, no remorse, and no guilt…It is a completely different mindset. Words like ‘predator’ and ‘evil’ are often used.”  The Serial Bully Here

If you have been targeted see it for what it is, you have unfortunately run in to a very disordered individual. Learn as much as you can as fast as you can in order to protect yourself.   Feeling down? Take a walk – it does wonders!

To “bully” – a much too kind of a word for a process that can lead to lifelong suffering and/or death for those targeted by this type of violence.

We already know that a relationship exists between “bullying” and conduct problems. In the study below, researchers took a closer look at children with conduct problems and co-occurring traits, such as callous-unemotional traits (CU),  such as a lack of guilt, absence of empathy and callous use of others.  The research concluded, that a child with conduct problems in combination with CU traits had “a particularly potent risk factor for both direct and indirect bullying.” Researchers also found in “line with previous research, males were more likely to engage in direct and females in indirect bullying.”

Individuals with conduct problems and CU traist are also insensitive to punishment.  In other words, punishment is not a deterrent.  The contribution of callous-unemotional traits and conduct problems to bullying in early adolescence. (April, 2009) Click Here  These individuals, like psychopaths, see no problem with their conduct and thus see no reason to change their behavior AND therein lies the problem.

“Bullies” also become subjected to a type of “bullying” as others distance themselves from these individuals due to their appalling and aggressive behavior.  Studies have shown that individuals who psychologically harass, “bully” others, more often than not, also show signs of having some type of psychiatric condition which is why children who “bully” others should undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Psychiatric conditions associated with bullyingHere

Individuals who ”bully” also enjoy hurting others (that’s how disturbed they are). Bullies may enjoy seeing others in pain: Brain scans show disruption in natural empathetic response. Click Here  Similar studies concerning adults point to that as well.  But, you don’t need scan their brains to tell that they enjoy hurting others. I am sure that most of us have witnessed that condescending smile they display from time to time.

A child with a genetic disorder such as psychopathy who “bully” others during his/her childhood will continue to do so as an adult.  This is the reason why we also have “bullying” in the workplace.  An individual with a personality disorder such as psychopathy does not “grow out of it” nor is there a “cure” for the disorder.  These individuals continue to wreck havoc/create chaos and harm/kill others wherever they may be, they are ruthless predators who only care for themselves.  Distinguishing characteristics of those who have “bullied” their way to the top are such things as, a very high salary along with some very advantageous “benefits” and an absence of morality, something that Dr. Robert Hare, leading authority on psychopathy, pointed out a long time ago. These individuals take pleasure in living a so called “parasitic lifestyle”, living off other people’s labor and money.*

Because of the great harm these individuals inflict on others, it is of immense importance that as many people as possible educate themselves about these gravely disturbed individuals.  Would you allow an individual with a severe personality disorder handle your money?  Most people would probably answer that question with a NO. However, many of these seriously disordered individuals have “bullied” their way into some very high positions in the government, private companies and organizations as well as other places, where they pose an enormous danger to a great number of people. Due to this, more and more people across the globe have raised their voices, calling for such things as testing individuals in and/or seeking a high position in which they will have power over others, this to make sure that the individual does not have a serious personality disorder such as psychopathy/sociopathy.  The sooner we can identify these individuals, the better a world we can create for us all.

To keep in mind: Individuals who abuse others most likely has some type of grave personality disorder.
